Performance comparison between self-tuning and model-reference based adaptive schemes for nodal voltage regulation in power systems

The scope of the present paper is to analyze and to compare the performance achievable by two different adaptive schemes for nodal voltage regulation in power systems. The first scheme is based on the modelreference technique while the second one employs the self-tuning approach. The design methodologies and the characteristcs of each scheme are described. With reference to a Static VAR System (SVS) compensator device, numerical simulation studies which consider both unknown load variations and changes in the power system structure have been run. The obtained results are analyzed and discussed.
